Find Out – a GK Series for schools
He has co-authored (with Neil O’Brien) this pioneering series. It the country’s highest-selling General Knowledge series for schools. It has been prescribed by over 1000 schools across the country and is the highest selling General Knowledge series of all time, having sold over 50 lakh copies since 1995.
New Find Out is a graded series comprising eight books of general knowledge for juniors. This Revised Fifth Edition has been given an exciting new look-and-feel. The content too has been updated, altered and enhanced in a very thorough manner. This has been done on the lines of the feedback we have received from teachers across the country.
It is virtually impossible to ‘hit the right standard’ or level at which each book should be pitched at, since the subject itself is vast and undefined. What would be the ‘right level’ for a child from a particular background in a certain part of the country, may be ‘way too high’ or ‘much too low’ in another. However, we have done our best to restructure the content and ‘moved pages up or down’ in the series based, once again, on the feedback from teachers, and students themselves.
Find Out! gives an insight into the world of information and knowledge in a manner calculated to attract and retain the young learner’s attention. It seeks to develop a thirst for knowledge on all subjects and a desire to FIND OUT more.
Sadly, there is far too much ‘unauthenticated’, carelessly researched and irrelevant information being passed around these days in the garb of GK and quiz books. We, on our part, have done our best to weed out unimportant trivia and restrict ourselves to including useful information and interesting questions. We have taken good care to refer exclusively to reliable sources of authentic information while creating this pioneering series that seems to have become the accepted template for GK series being used in schools.
This series strives only to activate the taste buds – for the pupil to develop an appetite and thirst to know more. Some pupils may find some of the chapters a little difficult or a little too easy. It is up to the teacher to decide, which sections need further information for in-depth study and which ones are less relevant for their pupils.
It is published by Oxford University Press and has had five revised editions.
It is a series of eight books for classes 1 to 8. Price – Rs 99-Rs 125
Get Set Go – a General Awareness/Life Skills/ Personality Development Series for schools
He is the co-author (with Neil O’Brien) of this truly path-breaking series, published by Oxford University Press in 2007. It has had two editions. It strives to help students by improving their general awareness, helping them to develop their personalities and guiding them to hone life-skill techniques, all in an effort to become better human beings.
The Get Set Go series comprises 8 books for classes 1 to 8. They will cover a wide range of subjects including the world of nature (plants and animals), language and literature, history and geography, environment, science, entertainment and showbiz, and sport and pastimes. More importantly, the books will have a distinct pan-Indian flavour (especially in Books 4-8).
An essential feature of the series is the attempt to enhance a child’s awareness of what is happening around him, as well as help develop his personality and make him a ‘more complete’ and well-rounded individual with good communication skills. The series seeks to prepare a child to go out into the world armed with knowledge and confidence.
The topics in each book deal with important issues of the world we live in. The cornerstones of the books are general knowledge, general awareness and personality development. They will acquaint a child with his roots, give him a sense of history and make him aware of the rich and varied heritage of India. They will provide him with the support that he needs to look back for strength and look ahead with confidence.
The information will be presented in ways that will be interesting, innovative, and interactive. The exercises will be of different types – Yes/No, multiple choice, correction of errors, fill in the blanks, unscrambling words, crosswords, mazes, matching columns, completing sentences, puzzles, picture comprehension, ticking, crossing, spotting, saying why, colouring, matching etc and so on. The exercises will be activity-based. They will often encourage him to think and work out rather than only answer what he already knows. He will need to apply the knowledge he has already gleaned.
